Hi,

I'm a New Zealander currently living in Melbourne, Australia (I'm now called a "Kiwoz" as I have dual citizenship), and like many antipodeans I have my roots going back to the UK (my father hails from Middlesbrough, and my grandfather, on my mother's side, comes from Brighton.) I've been interested in the genealogy of my family for many years now, and, recently, I looked at the information I have and noted that my Great Grandfather, Joseph Bodman Medcalf, and his two brothers, Charles Edward and Fred, were all born in Rudston. The dates of their respective births were as follows:

Charles 14 February 1856
Fred         11 September 1860
Joseph     18 June 1864

Their parents were John and Hannah Medcalf (nee Dixon,) and they were married at Kilham in 1853, before moving to Rudston. A search for Rudston on the Internet was the next step, and your newsletter seemed a logical place in which to make an enquiry.

Being so distant from source information, I would be intrigued and extremely grateful to know if any of the residents of Rudston know anything of my ancestors. If anything does come to light I would be delighted if the findings could be published in your newsletter. Conversely, any information could be sent to my home address at 66, McBean Avenue, Macedon 3440, Victoria, Australia, or I can be emailed at gmedcalf@tpg.com.au.

Thank you in anticipation, and I look forward to whatever possible revelations may be forthcoming.

Hi, we are researching our family history.

In the 1881 census, I have some of my 'rellies' - The Moorfoots - living in the Infant School House in Rudston. You have some great old shots on your website. I wonder if there are any pictures of the building contemporary with that period, and is the building still there? Was there a mystery as to why some of the house was unoccupied at the time of
