RECYCLING

As you will have seen in last months' newsletter, the Parish Council gave £500 to help towards the costs of the extension and improvements to the Village Hall. This money came from the payments received from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council in respect of the glass and paper recycling bins, situated opposite the playing fields. We have actually received to date, payments totalling over £620 since the bins were sited in May 2001, and we currently receive £24-52 per tonne for glass and £8-15 per tonne for paper.

Just as a matter of interest, the following amounts of recycling have been collected from Rudston:

2001 - 2002 Glass 3.59 tonnes Paper 3.527 tonnes

2002 - 2003 Glass 5.75 tonnes Paper 9.18 tonnes

2003 - 2004 Glass 9.34 tonnes Paper 10.94 tonnes

In February next year, for a trial period of three months, the Council will be collecting plastic bottles and cans through the blue bins on one of the Bridlington rounds to test the new Materials Recycling Facility (MRF). Assuming that everything runs to plan, we will hopefully be able to widen the range of items that we recycle through our blue bins by the end of 2005, which in turn will be more beneficial to the environment.

However, it is not the Council's intention to remove the paper and bottle banks from the village and we will continue to receive payments in respect of any recycling collected through them. As they say, this is money for old rope and is an easy way to help raise additional monies for the village.
