Rather belatedly, here are the results for each team entered in the local leagues in the 2004 season: Mens A team - finished 4th in Division 4 Mens B team - finished mid-table in Division 6 Mixed team - finished bottom in Division 5 Scarborough League mixed team were runners up in Division 2 The all-weather courts have again made a huge difference - the weather especially for men’s matches on Thursday nights was not good, but many more matches would have been cancelled had we not had such facilities. The mixed winter leagues, organised by Jo Frend, were a great success, with 18 people participating. A quiz night was organised, that not only raised £120 towards maintenance of the courts, but was a fun evening for all – the Maggs family was the overall winner. At the recent AGM, it was brought to the committee’s attention, sadly yet again, that some people are playing tennis on the courts without paying - either joining as members or paying a visitor fee. The subscription per year is £20 adult, £5 junior (under 16y) and £40 family - 2 adults and up to 4 children under 16y. These represent extremely good value when compared with other clubs in the area, especially given the year round facility. Subscriptions go towards the cost of maintaining the 3 courts and perimeter fencing- we are already putting funds aside for when the all weather courts need re-painting, and later re-surfacing, and a new lawnmower is needed. Visitor fees are £1 per child and £2 per adult per session, and should be given to Jane Crossley, Kiplingtron, Long Street. The club does not receive any money from Council Tax, and all maintenance costs have to be met by the club. The courts are not locked up because we do not want to make it difficult to retrieve footballs, rugby balls etc. that go on to the courts by accident. However, we then depend on the honesty and integrity of all users - please do not abuse this trust, we are lucky to have such wonderful facilities in the village. If there are any new people to the village who would like to join, please contact Jane Crossley on 01262 420462 for further details - new members are always welcome.
