Dear Sir,
"I have been contacted by a distressed Rudston resident who has found an emaciated dead fox, with a severe gunshot wound to its back leg, at the back of her house. It had only recently died, but its death had been long, slow, and painful.
A recent study, which appeared in the May issue of Animal Welfare, undermined claims by the RSPCA and League Against Cruel Sports that hunting with hounds, until it was banned, caused more suffering than shooting foxes. This study has just been peer reviewed and accepted as valid scientific research and showed that up to 50% of foxes shot with shotguns were wounded, not killed.
I am afraid our unfortunate Rudston fox will become an increasingly common and sad sight in the countryside, until the ban on hunting with hounds is reversed."
