Typical isn't it!  No sooner do we get our giant size Can Bank than the Council makes arrangements for cans to be added to household collections. I haven't seen anything about washing and flattening for the large bin though, so it may still be handy to put your tins in a box or something for transfer later. There is always the small matter of an extra pound or two for your Parish Council (and the village) of course, if we can fill that large container.

As mentioned last month, the next Parish Council meeting is on Wednesday, 6th July, when we expect to be back in the Village Hall. What with that and "the books" still being away, I find myself without much to report.

One thing I can't resist sharing now, though. Alun Michael's old government department is up to its usual nonsense even after he's moved on!  They proudly tell us that parish councils will be able to issue fixed penalty notices for litter, graffiti, and fly-posting, as well as dog fouling, and that it will NOT place any new duties on the parish council. Then a little further on, we find that we (parish council) would be "expected to take prosecutions for non-payment to court".  Leaving aside the prospect of the Chairman and/or myself taking time off to attend court, would we have to present a case ourselves? We can't afford lawyers. Now, what did I do with those Rumpole of the Bailey stories ... !

Also received, has been the first edition of what is promised to be a quarterly newsletter from the Citizens Advice Bureau.  Many people are unaware that this service is provided by (well-trained) volunteers. It is actually an independent charity helped by the Lottery. Local offices are at Bridlington (Prospect Arcade) open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Driffield (Portacabin outside Council Offices, Westgarth) open Monday, Thursday, Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The service certainly worked for me, the only time I used them. They sorted out in ten minutes something I had failed to make a national company understand in 3 months of letters and phone calls. It hardly applied in
