The National Gardens Scheme was started in 1927 to raise money for the nurses of The Queens Nursing Institute. Today it is a charitable trust, with around 3,500, mostly private, gardens open every year in England and Wales. Last year £1.8 million was raised of which £515,000 was given to the Macmillan Cancer Relief and £62,170 to help the Hospices amongst many others.
Rudston House is a 3 acre garden full of character with fine old trees, lawns, paths with clipped box hedging which children enjoy exploring. There are conifers, shrubs, greenhouses, a rose garden, and an interesting vegetable potager with named varieties. There are also Hosta beds with lilies and a short woodland walk and a pond and plenty of seats and interesting features. It was featured in 'Period Living & Traditional Homes' 2004.
