RUDSTON VILLAGE HALL NEWS Hope those of you who saw the alterations to the Village Hall when you came to vote were suitably impressed. I have heard a few quite positive comments which have been both encouraging and reassuring. It seems to have been a long hard struggle, starting with the initial idea in 1999, when it was suggested as a Millennium celebratory project, then the change of plan from 'new' to 'refurbishment', followed by the designing, and the considerable efforts required to achieve the major funding before work could be started. All this has been underpinned by the support received from the people of the village who have worked so hard to raise money for the project. We have seen some wonderful efforts over the past couple of years and I hope they have provided pleasure and fun to those who supported them. Sincere thanks to everyone who has organised and/or supported these events. I am pretty sure there were those who thought it would never happen and our Hall would continue to drop to pieces around us as we talked about improving it! I trust your faith has been restored and you are going to stick with it until it is finished! The weather over the winter was reasonably kind to us and enabled Patrick to get on with the job with minimum interruptions. He has done us a super job hasn't he? We are now on the last push and desperately need your help to bring it to completion. We have recently been granted money to buy new furniture and should be able to order that shortly. We are still pursuing funding for the floor covering, a shutter for the new serving hatch, a water boiler and microwave oven for the kitchen, blinds/curtains for the windows, various other fittings, cleaning equipment - to name but a few of the things! We still have to buy decorating materials - and to apply them. If there is anyone who is handy with a paintbrush and could spare an hour or two to help, please let us know. There will no doubt be some cleaning up afterwards too! I am hoping the weather is kind to us for the Duck Race. It will no doubt have taken place by the time you read this and I hope you have all supported it and had a good day if you came. It deserves your full support because there is a lot of work involved (mostly unseen), in organising this event and hopefully it will again be successful. We have recently received a couple of boosts to funds. Jill Pallister's Garage Sale raised £187.00 which she very generously donated to the Refurbishment Fund, and some of the Fund Raising Committee ladies recently attended the Farmers Market and 'manned' the Bacon Buttie Stall there and raised £191.00. (Another 'first' for us, we've never done anything like that before, but we enjoyed it)! I think if we stick at it we should soon be able to reap the rewards for our efforts in having a thriving Community Hall offering improved facilities for everyone to make use of and enjoy.
