At the last Parish Council meeting, a question was raised about the telephone part of the "dial a ride" Flexibus service.  On investigation, I am assured that everything is working as it should, with phones being answered, and they could offer no explanation for anyone being unable to get through.  On the two occasions I tried the number myself, admittedly later in the day, it was answered immediately.  However, I have written to the officer in charge at East Riding of Yorkshire Council to see if he has any comments on the matter.

At the time of writing, we seem to be starting with what has been "promised" to be a bout of severe weather with frost and snow.  With that in mind, and expecting it before now, we asked E.R.Y.C. (again) in December, about the possibility of extending the Salting Schedule to include the route of the school bus through the village.  The answer once again was, "No," and because of the "high level of resources required" there will be no further review for three years.  Saves us writing next year, I suppose, but seriously, people will need to continue to exercise great care in icy weather.

Thanks to a detailed letter of reply to the above, we now have a little more detail of the "secondary salting" as Kilham Road and Burton Fleming Road come under that.  It is called "reactionary salting" which means the road may not be treated prior to the formation of ice, but will be treated "when the temperature is likely to remain below freezing from midnight to mid-day" when formation of ice is likely and "operational resources are available."  This, they hope, will ease the situation in periods of "prolonged bad weather."

The next Parish Council meeting will be upon us very shortly, on 16th March, and will again be at the Art Gallery, by kind permission of Mr. Hogan.  Depending on progress with the village hall, it could be the last to be held there.  The following meeting will be the "annual" one in May.

Two years ago, the Parish Council was obliged to choose a handy site in the village to be a focal point to make for in case of disaster.  We are
