Work on the Village Hall should have started now. As it will, in effect, be a "building site" over winter, people are requested to avoid the area please. This applies particularly to children, of course, for their own safety. (If we can't let them play conkers any more, there's no chance with bricks and things!) The Parish Council decided to make a contribution of £500 to the project. An original suggestion had been to give the value earned to date from Recycling. As detailed elsewhere by a member, that is £620.72, but there will be some cost involved in the removal of items from the playground, and possibly other minor matters.

It appears that East Riding of Yorkshire Council (and consequently, I) may have "jumped the gun" over recording Anti Social Behaviour. We were informed at the last Parish Council meeting that Driffield Police Station are starting a file on the subject. Apparently, P.C. Nigel Stinson (officer No. 482) is to log every incident, however trivial it may seem. The telephone number at Driffield is 01377 253332, which is ''manned'' during office hours and then switched through to Hessle. So, please report everything you can! To comment on this - parish clerks will be happy to have one less thing to worry about, but you can't help wondering if it is a good use of a police officer's time. Instead of logging reports at the police station, he could be out on patrol, acting as a deterrent against incidents happening in the first place.

It was a pleasant surprise to have a number of onlookers at the last Parish Council meeting. It was also the last, for a few months, to be held in the Village Hall. The next is to be in the Sports Pavilion, but is not until 8th December, so I expect to write again before then - if there is anything to say!

Did you see where that Trevor Phillips, chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality, reckons that there is unintended ''apartheid'' in rural Britain? This was because members of ethnic minorities thought that they got "funny looks" in villages and village shops. What they and Mr. Phillips failed to realise was that ALL strangers get funny looks in a village! Until you get to know people, of course.

0h! - nearly forgot something. A couple of months ago, I voiced concern over the possibility of Wind Farms. Well, I understand from a reliable source that there is no need to worry - they wouldn't be plonked amongst us, and only at sea if there was a definite ''yes'' from people.

P. Crossland (Clerk)
