CLEANER ALTERNATIVES

Most of you will have seen programmes on TV such as ‘How Clean is Your House?’ where white vinegar and baking soda are used for numerous cleaning tasks. These, and many other household substances can be used for a varied number of tasks around the home. Here are just a few.

Window Cleaner

One tablespoon of vinegar per litre of water, wash, and when dry, buff up with scrunched up newspaper.

Oven Cleaner

Mix enough baking soda and water to sprinkle over the oven. Leave to work overnight and then scour.

Carpet spot remover (When fresh)

Sprinkle with cornflower. Let dry. Wash with sparkling mineral water. Let dry then vacuum.

Microwave oven cleaner

Place a bowl of water with half a lemon floating in it into the microwave. Switch to full power for about five minutes. The grime can then be easily wiped off. The lemon helps to deodorise the oven.

Copper cleaner

Rub the copper with lemon juice using a cloth and then buff up. Dip the cloth and lemon juice into a small amount of salt to remove stubborn marks.
