As usual, it will also be Gift Day – please give generously! And remember: no-one will call at the door for your envelope. THE VICAR’S RAMBLINGS At this time of year the way people approach Hallowe’en always annoys me. All year round we tell our children not to talk to strangers, and suddenly it’s fine to knock on anyone’s door and demand treats with menaces! And why this interest in witches and warlocks, things we’d normally class as evil? ‘Hallowe’en’ is a shortening of ‘All Hallows Eve’, and ‘Hallows’ is an old word for ‘Saints’. Instead of chasing pumpkins round the village, why not just join us in church? STEPHEN |
