| ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
This letter was sent to the newsletter and contains a report about an apparently mindless incident, which took place in Eastgate early in September. The letter was not received anonymously but the writers name and address have been withheld at their request. May I report that on Saturday 4th September 2004 at 1.30 am, my family and I were awoken by a violent and sustained hammering on our front door. Looking from my bedroom window, the perpetrators of the act were observed, fleeing down Eastgate towards the beck footpath. The noise was loud enough to also awaken my next-door neighbour. We followed these individuals to ascertain if there was any motive behind this senseless action. In their hurried attempt to leave the scene one lost a shoe. They returned to retrieve it, and we were able to speak to them. Initially there were harsh words from both parties. Knowing two of the perpetrators a more reasonable approach was taken. The police have been informed, and a crime number has been given. An Englishman's home is his castle, and the perpetrators of this action would do well to heed this warning. The parents would do well to take note as well. The people of Rudston must be aware of this potential danger within our midst. |
