Jane Batty and Pat Stephenson had the job of creating the display for the line "Who taught the honey bee to dance?" and the final display was spectacular. There was so much colour and life in the arrangement, and the bees rounded off the whole display perfectly. The pair started flower arranging 10 years ago and love creating big, extravagant displays. For the festival they worked with sunflowers and found that the colour and texture of the flowers made the display even more fun to do. Doreen Turner and Pamela-Ann Cooper, along with Liz Wilkinson and Angela Train, had the task of bringing to life the lines "Who put the sparkle in the stars?” “Who put the silver in the moonlight?” and “Who made Earth and Mars?” Both Doreen and Pamela-Ann have been interested in flower arranging for just over a year. They became involved with the festival as they are local residents, and thought that it would be a good idea to assist in the decorating of the church. The theme allowed them to be creative with the shapes of the flowers and the star shaped petal of the chrysanthemum inspired them. They were given the opportunity to work with orchids, which they both agreed would be too expensive to use in their normal arrangements. Doreen added that the best thing about helping in the festival was "Working with the fellowship of the community." Finally I spoke to Angela Train and Shirley Rothwell, who were creating the arrangement entitled "God". Angela has been flower arranging for 15 years and even teaches professionally, and became involved in the project through a friend in the village. Both love the idea of being so creative with natural objects and being able to create anything the imagination wants. Angela adds, "My favourite project is always the one I'm working on.” I even got the chance to create a display using greenery and purple flowers that was included in my grandma's display. I found it amazing how creative you can be with flowers, and if something doesn't look quite right, it is easy enough to alter it so you get the result you require. I was really pleased with my first ever flower arrangement and would definitely consider it as a future hobby. I think that my grandma's display turned out beautifully and I've learnt that finishing touches really do make all the difference. All the volunteers worked so hard, and should be proud of the final result that was achieved when they worked together as a team. I visited the church on Saturday and was amazed at how beautiful everything looked when it was complete. I've seen many flower displays but never have I seen the effort and hard work that goes into organising such an event and I must say that the displays themselves are the best I've seen.
