CAYTHORPE GAS STORAGE PROJECT - A LOCAL STANDPOINT.

On 13th June 2005, a public meeting was held in Rudston Village Hall, which allowed representatives of Warwick Energy Ltd. to give a presentation to residents of Rudston and Boynton. The presentation, delivered in the main by company executive Mr Robert Jones, was focussed upon his organisation's proposal to convert the gas field at Caythorpe into a gas storage facility.

For those who were unable to attend the public meeting, the July/August edition of the Rudston Newsletter included a six-page entry, (ps 16 -21), courtesy of Warwick Energy Ltd. The article provided a comprehensive synopsis of the proposals for development of the Caythorpe site as put forward at the time of the meeting.

Whilst both the public presentation and newsletter articles would appear to be noble and informative gestures on the part of the aspirant developer, this is not the case. The core message in each of these briefings projected the proposed development as being almost entirely benign. This is wholly misleading.

No detail at all is given by the company with regard to the new, above ground, plant needed to enable the site to function as proposed. However, the very dangerous high-pressure processes involved, will create a considerable potential for major accident close to local communities.

It is a matter of great disappointment and concern therefore, that Warwick Energy have chosen not to make reference to any of the genuine reservations raised by attendees at the public meeting in their article. The concerns highlighted were chiefly upon matters of safety, the environment and archaeological/historical issues.

The company's avoidance of addressing these concerns in their submission to the newsletter is clearly an indicator of their sensitivity regarding the matters in question. Describing themselves as "energy professionals", the Warwick Energy team were certainly unconvincing in their answers to any of the questions posed at the public meeting. Indeed, it was highly alarming to hear Mr Jones refer to compliance criteria for statutory legislation, which has not been current for over six years. Perhaps his organisation anticipates reliance upon their thus far unknown subcontractor to address matters such as this.

Many may consider that the decisions relating to this proposed development
