have already been made at high level. Any objection raised now would therefore be pointless. This is far from the case. Gas storage schemes as proposed by Warwick Energy are relatively new concepts in the UK and very few of the organisations involved have experience of the associated problems. Decisions may indeed have already been made in some quarters, but those responsible may not be in full possession of all facts which bear upon their accountability. Any objection therefore which at the very least causes delay, may assist in ensuring the appropriateness of safeguard requirements at project commencement. The importance of this cannot be overstated, both for local residents and for those who may find themselves culpable of poor judgement in the future.

Warwick Energy Ltd. clearly affirm on their website that the company was formed,
to exploit opportunities created by the combined effects of deregulation and convergence of UK energy markets.

They go on to state,

"The relatively immature market and the continuing rapid evolution of structures create an environment in which an agile. knowledgeable player can quickly build material value"

and,

"The business model is to create a low fixed cost structure through concentrating internal management on core competencies and outsourcing all tasks outwith the core competencies on a competitive basis" (See subcontractor, para. 6.)

The single strategic goal of the organisation is clearly identifiable through this jargon.  However, this is somewhat at odds with the declaration of intent regarding the national interest, as put over in the local briefings. It may be argued of course, that the real aims of Warwick Energy are no different to those of any other modem corporate entity.  It may also be foreseen that owing to the perceived current energy climate, this company will ultimately succeed in meeting its proposed objectives.

That said, some might assume that success for the developer in this area will bring with it some significant local material gain. Bitter disappointment will be the only reward for such conjecture. The term "local benefactor" is not one frequently alluded to in the Warwick Energy web pages.

We still live very much in the world of the Fat Cat. It remains for us therefore,
