Hello and welcome to this month's Newsletter.
Summer is on its back foot now; the nights are quickly drawing in, and the weather has been typically British. Never mind, we did have the odd scorcher, hot enough to entice my shorts out of the bottom drawer!
I don't know if it's just that I have never noticed in previous years, but aren't there a lot of sun flowers, growing in the strangest of places. We have had them popping up in hanging baskets, around the garden and also finding their way into seed trays. There is even one growing through the footpath at the front of Bosville Cottages. I assume that they must have come from bird feeders and that they have been dropped or discarded by the birds.
Shortly after our Summer Edition came out, I was asked to include in the Newsletter, an article sent in by the action group, 'Wolds Residents Against Gas Storage'. However, as we have received an informative flyer from them, through our doors, I don't feel the need to repeat what has already been said. Should there be any further developments, I will include them in the newsletter. The action group contacts are: Robert Deri 679407 & Mrs Burgess 420130.
There have been at least two break-ins or attempted break-ins in the village through the summer. One of these took place when the would-be thieves answered an advertisement for goods for sale. They used the opportunity to 'case the joint' while masquerading as potential buyers. They returned, under cover of darkness, and entered an outbuilding by making a hole in the roof. They then disabled the intruder alarms, and cut off various locks and chains etc. that had been used to secure the goods and premises. Fortunately for the owner, they were either beaten by time or felt unable to remove the goods covertly, so they left empty-handed. Just think how willingly you let someone into your home when you think they have come to buy that unwanted item for cash. In future, it might be wise to ask for identification before you allow anyone over your threshold.
