The hot topic of the summer (if I may put it like that!) is the proposed extension to the Low Caythorpe Gas site. When it was discussed at the last Parish Council meeting, members were generally supportive. In preparing this before the meeting of 24th August, I can't report on any change to that position, but certainly there were none of the strong feelings initially that the idea seems to have aroused in others, leading them to form an "Action Group". Warwick Energy have been made aware of their literature and may wish to make further comment themselves. (Nothing received for the Newsletter at the time of going to print - Ed.)
More on the High Hedges legislation mentioned two or three months ago. Anyone with a problem of this nature is advised that approaching East Riding of Yorkshire Council should be considered something of a last resort, and they cannot become involved until efforts have been made to personally resolve the dispute with your neighbour. I now hold a copy of the Council literature, including the form you would have to complete. The Parish Council would not be involved in, or even told of, any dispute in the village, excepting any case involving "protected" trees or hedgerows.
Now, a reminder of how to stop "junk" mail and phone calls. For mail you register free, in writing to: Mail Preference Service, Freepost 29 LON 20771, London, WIE 7EZ, or telephone: 020 7291 3310. For telephone junk, it is: Telephone Preference Service, DMA House, 70 Margaret Street, London, WIW 8SS, phone: 0845 070 0707. There are similar e-mails for those who prefer to be "on line" - mps@dma.org.uk - and tps . . .
Got to laugh haven't you - just as I was writing that my phone rang, and it was some foreign female on about cheaper telephone bills! (At least, I think that's what it was about - she was politely cut-off in mid-flow).
We are advised by Citizens Advice that people unable to cope with PIN numbers for credit cards are being told that there is no alternative.
