As I am unaware of who might be the appropriate person to contact, it is requested that the following be published in the Rudston newsletter.
I would be most grateful if, whoever has responsibility for upkeep of the children's play area, could inform the villagers as to the future plans for the space.
The much needed renovation and extension of the village hall is a real credit to those who have invested so much of their time, energy and money on the project. As everyone is aware, despite the best efforts of those involved, resources have been very limited and full completion remains a little way off.
However, all major works affecting the adjacent play park have now been complete for a considerable time. It has been a great disappointment, to me and my children, that the park has not been made good in the wake of the work. We, who have enjoyed, valued and used the facility regularly, now find it to be in a dangerous condition.
The following areas are of concern:
· The park has been inadequately gated for a number of months, allowing dogs to foul the playing area.
· The slide, which is one of the favourite pieces of equipment with preschool children, has not been re-sited, along with the roundabout.
· The area around the new septic tank stretching towards the hall is full of rubble. Grass and weeds are growing through this rubble, leaving a particularly uneven and dangerous surface to play on.
· The toddler swings are surrounded by broken glass.
· The stays of the swings are rocking up when more insistent swinging is taking place by older children.
The derelict appearance of the site has encouraged young people to build ramps for stunt biking, and I have no objection to this healthy activity. At least some are getting benefit from the neglect and whilst it's important that they have an area for recreation, I think this could be well accommodated around the perimeter of the park.
